Year 10 English Assignment

In the advertisement the ‘PSP (Play Station Portable)’ console is the largest thing on the page because that is the main thing that they want the viewers to see. 90% of people know what a PSP is and know that it is produced by ‘SONY’; therefore, just the item is shown big.

As you may have noticed already there are no prices shown or no simple links to be able to buy the product. This is because the intended target audience is children – young teen ages and they just see a picture of something and like it. No children are going to read long paragraphs of information. When they see the product their parents are the ones who would read into it and purchase it.

As you can see one of the biggest written things on the screen is the words ‘PSP (PLAYSTATION PORTABLE)’. This is for people who have only heard the phrase PSP but don’t know what it stands for. It is also there to advertise the company PLAYSTATION. Next to that are the words ‘THE WHOLE WORLD IN YOUR HANDS’. This is a play on words as the PSP is at a small enough size to fit in your hands. They say ‘THE WHOLE WORLD’ to advertise the fact that not only can you play games on it but you can also watch movies, listen to music and go on the internet.

A clever little trick that the advertisement holds is that they have made vinyl’s in the top left hand corner using X, , & O. This is clever because they are buttons on a PSP, PS1, PS2 and PS3 and is a very famous combination. Another clever technique used to make kids interested is the use of bright colours and child drawings as the background. This makes both child and adult believe that the PSP product is 100% for having fun and a good time and that your imagination can run wild (hence the rocket).

This advertisement uses the AIDA acronym. The first ‘A’ in AIDA stands for attention. This advertisement grabs the viewer’s attention with the bright colours, unusual drawings and the glossy product. The product grabs our attention from being the biggest thing on the page. The next letter is ‘I’ which stands for Interest. After the product grabs our attention we then become interested and look into it, see the positives of it and eventually picture our selves using the product which is part of the next step…Desire. After imagining we have the product and since we are imagining it we now want that to become a reality so we then start to want it and DESIRE it then finally we put those feelings into action and purchase the product.
